Lucy Kirkwood’s modernisation of Ibsen’s classic demanded modern clothing that was simultaneously normal and understated, whilst still portraying the intensity of the play. The gorgeous Stella McCartney coreseted jumpsuit gave Hedda gravitas and drama, while Eli in simple black rollerneck and suit trousers instilled the contemporary feeling that Kirkwood strived for in her adaptation.
